Jared Kushner is due to travel to Israel and Egypt with Board of Peace officials in a fresh attempt to advance Gaza arrangements after an announced plan met Israeli opposition, according to AP.

Who is travelling

The delegation is expected to visit Israel before travelling to Cairo, where talks involving a Palestinian technocratic group set to assume control of Gaza have been taking place. A Board of Peace official said former British prime minister Tony Blair and the board’s high representative, Nickolay Mladenov, will join the trip.

What the travel does not settle

The travel is a diplomatic development, not evidence that the parties have agreed on the core terms of a settlement. Questions over implementation, security, governance and the sequence of commitments remain unresolved.

Claims about withdrawal, disarmament or reconstruction remain unconfirmed until the parties themselves set out agreed terms.
