Russia and Ukraine have exchanged another round of deadly long-range strikes, underscoring how drones and missiles are pushing the war deeper into civilian and industrial areas far from the front line.
AP reported that a Russian drone strike in Ukraine’s Sumy region killed three members of one family, including a 13-year-old boy. Ukrainian officials also reported further injuries from overnight Russian attacks elsewhere in the country.
Ukraine, meanwhile, said it had struck targets inside Russia, including an industrial site in Voronezh that Kyiv described as linked to Russia’s military supply chain. Russian local authorities reported casualties, but the exact target and military significance of the site remain difficult to verify independently.
The attacks fit a broader pattern. Ukraine’s air force said Russia launched dozens of drones and a ballistic missile overnight, while Russian authorities said Ukraine launched a large drone barrage against Russian territory. Both sides routinely frame their strikes as military operations; independent confirmation is often limited in the first hours after attacks.
The humanitarian context is worsening. UN monitors have reported high recent civilian casualties in Ukraine, with long-range attacks increasingly affecting cities and regions away from active ground fighting.
