European officials reported a new wave of bomb threats against passenger flights on Friday, following several days of hoaxes that had prompted diversions. The Associated Press reported that the European Union’s transport commissioner cited 11 new threats on Friday, after Eurocontrol recorded threats against 14 flights on Thursday and seven on Tuesday.

The threats also reached broadcasters. Ireland’s RTÉ evacuated its Dublin headquarters and replaced live broadcasts with prerecorded programmes while police searched the building. Staff returned after authorities declared the site safe. UK-based Sky said it had received a security threat but continued broadcasting; Bulgaria’s Nova TV also reported a threat and followed its safety procedures.

Authorities had not publicly identified who was behind the threats or established a link to any government or organisation. The figures underline how low-cost threats can trigger significant safety procedures even when disruption to aviation is limited. European security and aviation officials said they would meet the following week to discuss the response.
