KYIV — Russia launched a large aerial assault on Ukraine's capital and the surrounding region overnight into Tuesday, killing at least 11 people and wounding more than a dozen others, including three children, local authorities said, according to the Associated Press.

Ukraine's air force said the attack began at 6pm on Monday and involved ballistic, cruise and anti-radar missiles as well as 218 drones and decoys. About a third of the drones were reported to be jet-powered.

The strikes marked the sixth consecutive day of Russian attacks on Kyiv, following an unprecedented stretch of air raid alerts that began last week. The warnings have continued at a near-constant pace, subjecting the city and its residents to prolonged danger and disruption, with strikes arriving during both night and daytime hours.

Where the strikes landed

AP reported that the latest attack hit civilian infrastructure and residential buildings across several districts of Kyiv, with eight people killed in the city itself and three more in the surrounding region.

Seven people were killed in the Darnytskyi district, authorities said. One person was seriously wounded and taken to hospital, according to the emergency service, and at another site in the district an explosion wounded two people, including a child.

An eighth person was killed in the Holosiivskyi district, where a non-residential building was hit and caught fire, the emergency service said. In the Solomianskyi district, a drone strike damaged a residential building; emergency workers rescued one man and freed a woman trapped beneath rubble.

Twelve people were wounded in areas of the Kyiv region outside the city. In Boryspil, three cars caught fire, emergency crews evacuated 48 people and rescued two from under rubble, and eight people were injured, including two children. A lorry fire at an infrastructure facility in the town damaged the building and killed two people, injuring three others, while a service station was also damaged, killing one person, the emergency service said.

Odesa also hit

The Odesa region came under a major attack overnight, damaging civilian infrastructure and wounding one person, the regional head, Oleh Kiper, said. Two residential buildings were damaged and a fire broke out at a sewing factory. Russian forces also struck the Orlivka international ferry crossing on the border with Romania, he said.

Ukrainian forces said they had destroyed or suppressed 199 aerial targets, including five ballistic missiles and 187 drones. Strikes were recorded at 28 locations, with debris from intercepted targets falling at another 10 sites.
