Kazakhstan’s Central Election Commission says voting to elect deputies to the new Kurultai is set for 23 August — the first election to the body in the country’s history.

Administration and observation

The commission says voters have been able to check their records at polling stations since 7 August. The OSCE Office for Democratic Institutions and Human Rights has posted an interim report, following a needs assessment in July.

What the vote tests

The vote comes after a constitutional overhaul created the new parliamentary structure. The practical questions now are how election administration, participation and the first Kurultai’s powers will work once the deputies take office.

This remains a preview rather than a result report.

Official counting, observer findings and independently reported voter experience will determine the evidence base after polling day.
