Deadly Israeli airstrikes in Gaza on Wednesday have deepened doubts over whether renewed US diplomatic efforts can steady the territory's fragile ceasefire.
At least 10 people were killed in two strikes, according to local hospitals and the Palestinian Red Crescent. The Palestinian Red Crescent said a strike on a police station in Gaza City killed at least nine people and wounded 15, while one person was killed in Nuseirat.
Israel's military said it had targeted Hamas commanders, including in Nuseirat and the Tuffah area of Gaza City. It said a strike the previous evening had targeted a meeting of Hamas commanders and other militants, but did not name the people targeted or confirm whether they were killed.
The reported strikes came days after a US negotiator met Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and reportedly urged a reduction in attacks. The ceasefire dispute remains unresolved, with Hamas disarmament and Israel's withdrawal from current lines among the central sticking points.
